    About My Research

Information plays a crucial role in management and organizations. However, managers and employees may have conflicting goals and interests. As a result, the flow of information between managers and employees is often incomplete or inaccurate. I am carving out a new area of study within management by exploring this phenomenon of "difficult conversations." I explore difficult conversations as they relate to negotiation and to information sharing (e.g., sensitive disclosures and trust violations). My research examines when and how employees and managers should have difficult conversations. I identify antecedents of difficult conversations in organizations, and their effects on important outcomes within management (motivation, performance, trust, and unethical behavior). My research focuses on answering two main questions:

    (i) When should people avoid negotiating?

(ii) How should managers and employees effectively communicate (potentially sensitive) information?

Research interests: Negotiation, Conversation, Conflict Resolution, Trust, Managerial Decision Making.
